Do you happen to know what breed your dog is? I adopted one from a shelter that looks very similar... my best guess is he's a Great Dane/German Shepherd cross. There are some photos of him here: http://redroanchronicles.dreamwidth.org/9045.html
I had him DNA-tested and they decided he was 25% malamute and 25% basset hound. o.O
Mackenzie- We got Sophie about 8 1/2 years ago as a 6 month old puppy from the humane society in Longmont, CO (behavior problems, Ummm PUPPY?). We were told she was a German Shepard "cross". She weighs about 55 pounds, and I have seen a LOT of similar looking dogs, all mutts and all smart (like your dog!).
