Bionic Cowgirl: Very Much Alive and Doing Quite Well, Thank You

Yeah, it's me, the bionic cowgirl.  We've been receiving quite a few email inquiries about my current physical conditioning, so I thought it prudent to 'get over' my current malaise with my computer.  Many years ago we left the computer industry and I swore I would never again become addicted to the creature!!!!  So every now and then, this particular malaise hits me and I refuse to be drawn into the electronics world (except of course, the normal, everyday entering of company data, bookkeeping, and quarterly reports, etc that I can't get away from).  Besides, Beel is so much more fun to read!  Onward ...
Jesse playing peek-a-boo with me.

Again woke up to a good four inches of new snow - now 5 hours later and still coming down - but had this amazing feeling that it's now RIGHT.  It's beautiful and I love watching the horses be at peace with the weather, even like this.
Love Jesse's snowy eyelashes!

Estes, next to 'the shed'.  She sure blends in.
We've had three weekends full of guests, and only a couple rooms this weekend, so maybe that's why I feel like maybe a blog would be good.  The physical therapist says my arm is on the fast track, healing wise, and should be fully functional within the next 4 - 6 weeks; as soon as we can get my strength back.  MY goal is to be riding next week - at the 6 wk mark.  Yesterday, before the snow, would have been a perfect ride day: dry road, no wind, sunny, mid-40's, so I brushed the horses instead.  They weren't too appreciative because they had worked very hard over the last few weeks getting their mud-coat just right and I messed it up right before a storm.
Yesterday, these two had black backs.  Now they just have sad faces. LOL

Did I mention there is a pallet load of pellets sitting on the back of our truck?  Hmmmm, good thing they shrink wrap those babies pretty well!  Right now I'm not much help unloading things like that (they weigh slightly more than my coffee cup weight limit), although yesterday, I did help bring in wood.  I'm only allowed to carry 'baby' sticks, but it's better than nothing.  Beel keeps a really close eye on me.

I've always said that lodge work was the best kind of physical therapy.  I tell my PT that all the time.  Imagine the stretching that takes place folding sheets for 19 beds at a time (after each full weekend!), and did I mention the making of those beds?  Of course, that's just the start ... but I still enjoy my life.  How many people get to live in such elegance as the Rocky Mountains?

Although sometimes, I am envious of Mikey in AZ, having the weather to tan her own cow hide.  That is so cool.  The desert is a way neat place to live if you can take the heat.  In fact, most of you bloggers live in really cool regions.  I would love to visit everyone of you; I think I will make that a goal - or a NY's resolution, since that's the only kind of resolutions I make (fun ones!).

Due to all our lifestyle changes this year, what with my bionic-ness and the decision to keep the horses home, we have decided to forgo the WNFR (Wrangler National Finals Rodeo) this year.  Instead we will travel through AZ in a couple weeks to see a friend who lives near the Mexico border and catch up there.  I'm actually looking forward to the trip, even though certain kids have tried to threaten me to stay off any horses while away.  What fun is that?

So, you see, I am alive and well, but very, very slow.  The arm gets tired before the work gets done (typing is still a strain) and blogging has fallen by the wayside.  I promise to do better soon.

Yours truly,
The Bionic Cowgirl

  1. Nice to see you blogging again! Sounds like you're on the mend. We have snow now, too, and our horses are just loving it. I get to envying people in warmer locations, but I really, really love snow....it's cold rain and wind I can do without. Take care of yourself!

  2. Boy, Linda, I totally agree on the cold rain and wind issue. Winter was always my favorite season - but now I just creak like the Tin Man. Maybe I should add 'special bionic oilcan' to my Christmas list this year. Stay warm.

Ok, I'm way too excited. But glad to hear you're the mend. I think you could ride a nice safe horse in the desert, don't you?
Gotta say, I miss the snow somtimes. You come visit here, then I'll come visit there and we can both get our fix of weather. I bet you'd let me ride bareback in the snow *grin*

  5. What a pleasant surprise:o) I got on a little bit earlier and saw the last couple that Beel had posted, and was wondering how you were doing?

So glad to hear that you are on the mend...I see that Beel had snuck off to the desert and stocked up on some more of that Crypto my optic dust...LOL
is that the secret in your sauce????

  6. Glad to hear you'll get out of the weather for a vacation! Congrats on the fast healing, you must be living right to have such mend able bones.

You know technically you weren't injured while riding. Technically, riding out was a good thing, if we ignore the fact that it was a horse that kicked at you... You could almost argue it wasn't a equine injury. It was like a bar fight. With 1,000 pound brawlers.

Can't wait for your first day back on horseback!

  7. Yes, you are the toughest woman alive. I tried to be like you and failed. LOL. Your snow is beautiful. We got some, too, topped with below zero weather. Already? It was just 40. Yikes. I am not ready for the cold temps.

Keep up the great healing. You are amazing and an inspiration to all of us weenies. :)

  8. So glad to hear you are mending well.

We were supposed to get rain/snow this weekend...Thankfully that has not happened. The older I get the more I really don't care for it...or the cold.

But then, I was glad to get out of the extreme heat of the AZ Valley in the summer as well. LOL-I guess I am just getting to be a wuss about the weather.

Have fun down in AZ and if you guys get the chance, you simply HAVE to meet up with Mikey and Wade (and Mercy), you guys will love each other.

  9. YAY!!! Bionic Cowgirl!!! We've missed you- so glad to see you are doing well. Knew you would though- you are (as Mikey says,) Dirty. Tough. Put all of us younger pups to shame ;)

I am sitting here, 70* weather, trying to convince myself that yes, it IS Thanksgiving week. Yes. Christmas IS a month away. Sure does not feel like it, with the weather like this. Oh well... I'll enjoy your snow pictures!

Take care and have a fun one! We love you guys!

  10. I, for one, think you SHOULD go see Mikey and Wade and Mercy and go out for a ride in the desert. I don't know which other kids you're talking about. This one says do it!

Hell, you rode OUT while you were still broken to pieces. Now you're bionic. What are you waiting for?

  11. I thought yall had been busy for a couple weekends! Glad to hear you're healing up fast and staying out of trouble. Well, aside from causing trouble for your poor dirty horses! ;)

  12. 50+ - thanks for the healing wishes. Keep up the good work with your horses. I was 50+ when I got my FIRST horse; a dream finally come true!

Well, it looks unanimous that we visit Mikey and crew while in AZ. Would love to do that; can you email us Mikey and I can give you dates; maybe we can work something out? I would LOVE to ride a 'safe' desert horse - and you are more than welcome to come hop a bareback Mustang here in CO - anytime!

Yep, Mr. D., we have more crypto dust floating around the lodge again. Sigh ...

Breathe, I love your analogy of my latest escapade. I have to keep telling people, "I was NOT on the horse, and the horse was not kicking AT me. I was just too close to the horse that was being kicked AT." "Thousand pound brawlers in a bar fight" made me laugh. Thank you.

MF - none of you guys out there in horse land are weenies. I've never thought of myself as that tough; I just do what has to be done, same as any of you would - and do.

BEC - keep up the good work on your homefront. I used to do a lot of that, but now it all sounds like WAY too much work. So now we play with horses instead. Thanks for the vote on AZ.

MM - I wish we could send you some of the 'Christmas snow atmosphere'. We just got back from down below - therapy again - and found another 3" on new snow. Still planning on getting the horses out tomorrow. Six weeks is up; yeah!!!!

GD - thanks for the vote of confidence. I fully intend to take you up on it.

Funder - You, of all people, know that sometimes you just have to figure out which of those spots BELONGS on your horse.
