A Sunny Gray Day

Juanita and I took the two grays out on the mountain today to check the snow-pack up there.

A quick warm up on Washoe.

He measures a little over one hand taller than Ranger, but in reality, he's a full forehead taller.

It's going to be a long ride if Jesse has to check out ALL of the rocks out here.

Oh no... there is something in the trail!

Oh.  A puddle.

Just poke'n along.

Mount Meeker in the background.

Moose duds.

There were a bunch of trees downed across the trail.  We had more wind than usual this winter.
The old "hangman's tree" didn't make it through the winter.

These 3 fell across the trail.  They may be to big to drag...

Ranger didn't seem to like being left behind this time.  He hollered a LOT while we were gone.

I accused him of screaming like a little girl.

 Nice ride.

  1. Beel was so excited about Moose duds that he sort of forgot about the bobcat he scared up; it took off skittering cross country and of course, we had to follow - but to no avail. It lost us pretty quickly in the underbrush. We were sorely disappointed in the lack of snow and runoff for this time of year, and lots of downed timber - great for fire starting!

  2. I love that you guys just cruise all over bareback with halter and lead rope. Best way to go. Ranger, quit being a sissy!!!

  3. I'm still laughing at the moose duds...What I wouldn't give to go on a ride like that, my kinda heaven. Poor Ranger, screaming like a girl, how embarrassing.
You didn't say, so I assume the bobcat didn't spook the horses, it sure would've startled me.

  4. I agree with Mikey, I love that you ride bareback and bitless. Thanks for the picture of the moose duds, too. I like to know what I find on a trail and I wouldn't have recognized it. It looks like Beautiful's stuff.

  5. So are the news stories true? That snow pack is only 26% of normal? Sure looks sparse?

I had to turn verification back on. Ten "spams" an hour is making me crazy...
